HK USP Compact Review
It is the HK USP Compact is a small frame pistol that is capable shooting the best cartridges available in 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP. Modeled after the larger USP model, these compact pistols are compact and offer optimal shooting efficiency.
USP Compacts weigh less and are lighter in comparison to larger frame USPs. The decrease in the trigger's reach and grip diameter makes them more concealable and improves shooting ergonomics. In contrast to some semi-automatic pistols, which use the difficult shot "two-finger grasp" frame that are difficult to shoot, USP Compact is a more compact model. USP Compact uses a narrow full-hand grip frame that comes with the option of swappable extension or flush-fitting magazine floorplates. This makes the pistol simple to shoot while preserving security.
Similar to their larger frame counterparts, USP Compacts are designed to meet the demands of law enforcement officers as well as military shooting enthusiasts in mind. With a modified linkless Browning action that is linked to a Browning-type action, the USP Compact is built to handle the stress of heavy +P loads with high energy.
In order to reduce in length the barrel and slide that are on USP Compact, to reduce the length of barrel and slide on USP Compact, the mechanical recoil reduction mechanism that is found on the large frame USPs is now replaced with a specially-designed flat compression spring that is contained in the spring assembly with the use of a polymer absorber bushing. The service life of the spring is designed to last for more than 20000 rounds.
Easy to shoot, easy to maintain, The USP Compact is a reliable and safe, precise and extremely concealed pistol.
The HK USP Compact holds a very special spot inside my soul. It was the very first handgun I owned and, for all of the initial five years I was a liar of it. It's my opinion that there's always an enclave within your soul for the very first firearm you have. This USP Compact was the first gun I bought that I learned how to shoot with. Lucky for me, I still have it to this day and I still love shooting on the shooting range.
I bought the HK USP Compact in 2004 for $848.99 at Jays Sporting Goods in Gaylord, Michigan. As this was the first gun I spent a fair amount of time deciding through the HK, SIG Sauer P229 as well as the Glock 19 Gen 2. I settled on that USP Compact based on how it felt in my hands as well as the basic ergonomics. I had planned to conceal carry the gun, and I wanted to shoot with IDPA also, so I chose the smaller frame size in order to make a compromise.
Shooting and Competing against The USP
Before I bought my HK I fired between 2,000 to 3,000 rounds with the gun of my father's Glock 17 Gen2. The Glock was a perfect shooter throughout my initial several months in learning how to shoot. I could have purchased an Glock but I decided to test something different to see what I liked about. At the time, I still was a teenager. the HK would fit better in my hand but was still manageable and light. There were a few differences like the magazine release , and the trigger for DA/SA, but after some practice getting used to, things became more comfortable. Being a competitor using the HK USP Compact was a little different from older competitors running Smith & Wesson 686s and Kimber 1911s.
Although it was the black area sheep, I was awed by how consistent and accurate the USP shot in every tournament I was at. One of the biggest issues I encountered in the firearm was its trigger made of polymer and the degree of flex that it had. As I was a novice with a gun, I was unaware of the differences in triggers until switching. I made the choice to switch to the SIG Sauer P226 following a few years of owning an HK. Actually, in the big picture the HK USP trigger isn't bad at all. The USP trigger has a recoil force that is straight back and is extremely easily controlled for quick subsequent shots. I learned to press on the HK mag release using my trigger finger for quicker firing. After a few years, the USP was a fantastic firearm for IDPA arena, but the 226 and the other guns met my needs better.
What does it mean?
Its overall style of HK USP Compact is 23 years old. Therefore, it's considered to be brand new. It's surprising that it performs with the other models available in the present. With a fully loaded magazine and a full magazine, the USP Compact is very well balanced. It's a simple gun to use and clean, thanks to the simple disassembly consisting of four main parts. Regarding disassembly, this USP Compact is just like every other modern handgun, with easy takedown and assembly. The main thing I can find the USP lacking is its capacity. The flush-fitting magazines are designed to hold 13 rounds, which isn't exactly much when compared with that of SIG P365 and Springfield Hellcat currently. Modern versions of HK such as the VP9 offer more capacity today. In the past, it was a great conceal carry option in general.
If you've ever dreamed of owning an USP Compact I would say you must buy one. It has proven to be reliable and bulletproof for any ammo. I still have the USP Compact fairly often despite it not being the newest and greatest choice available. It might not possess the power or features of modern handguns but it's a reliable gun and I'm still able to trust it with my everyday life. Tell me what you think of this USP Compact after 23 years of being in the market.
