hk vp9sk review

There's nothing more sought-after in pistols of production than the debut of Heckler and Koch. From their legendary designs to German accuracy to their involvement of special operations force, H&K firearms are idolized by shooters around the world. People who criticize the guns made by GmbH usually are based on their retail prices or philosophical grounds. I'm not going to waste any time with "because they don't like us" discussion here, but instead I'll present to you the VP9SK, which is the much sought-after, affordable younger sibling of the renowned H&K VP9.

I'll remove my disclaimers from the way in advance:

I am not Hans Gruber, former GSG 9 team member, or Teutophile. In actuality, I've never been a owner of any H&K firearm. My reviews on TFB concentrate on providing you with an overview of the guns and other gear, to give you an understanding of the subject before you began thinking. It's true that only a couple of range exercises with a few photos and 4500 rounds on a barrel do not provide the most thorough review ever written in the history of firearms. But, I believe it's a good start for those seeking an ultra-compact pistol or the VP9SK, specifically. Like all of the reviews on TFB I was loaned, but not granted, this VP9SK for a brief amount of time.
Please also adhere to all safety rules for handling firearms.

Initial observations:

A pistol and spare magazines, and spare parts are typically packaged in a foam-lined and plastic case. Although it's not a lot of a thing however, the precise cut space for extra equipment appear good-designed and implemented. It's an ordinary pistol case, but it's a good idea to keep most owners from needing to purchase the best storage and transport options.

VP9SK SPECIFICATIONS:

The following specifications will speak for themselves. Based on the numbers it appears that it appears that the VP9SK as well as the 3rd generation Glock 26 would be in a dead-end and the majority of categories are in a contest between the two. Naturally, the test gun is made in the most powerful caliber for pistols on the earth (you are right) 9mm, however, it is likely that a VP40SK with 40S&W is likely to make a splash in the near future, despite the 10mm-light cartridge gaining the spotlight.

If you are a fan of raw numbers The following information is from hk-usa.com as well as an official page from the owner's manual of the VP9SK:
My test pistol is one of the "commercial" (non-LE) variant that has luminescent rear and front sights instead of conventional Tritium night sights. It also comes with just the one extra mag instead three. Everything else being equal, the $100 extra would make me consider purchasing the LE version to get the upgrades and extras. Don't worry you can get the LE version is accessible to everyone with the right amount of money not just badge holders.

H&K VP9SK AVAILABLE CONFIGURATIONS

Commercial Version - Part No. 700009K-A5, VP9SK equipped with one flat as well as one extended floorplate , 10 round magazines MSRP $719

LE Version -Part No. 700009KLE - A5, VP9SK 9mm, with one flat and two extended floorplates, 10 round magazines that include night sights. MSRP $819.

Note: The 13-round and 15-round extended magazines will be available in November 17, 2017.

As we sit here, let's discuss the highlights. Although they're not my favorite H3-infused type of dot, these were incredibly brilliant even when in bright sunlight. Additionally, they were decently bright in darkness even after just several minutes of the ambient light to give them an "charge". It's evident that these lights aren't created from the same glowing ceiling star material that we used to have when we were kids. My guess is that they are moon rock material or dilute Predator blood. The samples have been taken for analysis to TFB lab to be analyzed.

For those who want to have additional lead and copper in their reserve, H&K will be releasing 13 and 15 round magazines equipped with the molded floor plates for fingers and grips. Personally, I believe the strength of this pistol lies in its size. I'd rather use it in the smallest version that is possible. If a reload for tactical purposes is needed, a thinner (possibly less expensive) standard VP9 15-round magazine will be able to deal with the scenario in the same way.

NICE TOUCHES:

The serrations at the rear of the slide on the SK come with removable inserts, which are known as "charging supporters". These small pieces of polymer give shooters an extra layer of gripping surface on which that allows them to slide rack. Are you not a fan? The parts can be taken off by tapping the rear view toward the left or to the right. The inserts are then lifted and removed. Slick.

Magazine release is an ambidextrous mechanism however , the design is unusual finger guard with a vertical paddle. There are some users who have reacted negatively to the H&K system, however I became accustomed to it and began enjoying it more than the standard normal Mag release I have on my Glock 26. If you've not been given the chance to test the H&K release style Give it a shot to convince you before you dismiss it. I would suggest that you spend a lot of time at the range and firing dry practice to refresh your muscles memory. I'd recommend a minimum of 4000 hours of training before firing any newly acquired carry guns. Double it.

The grip panels made of three pieces are well-thought out, and have the capability to switch between three sizes. Even though I have massive hands, they would prefer smaller panels. It's easy to remove them - utilize a small knife to remove the pin that is holding the backstrap. Slide the current size out , then slide the new size into. It brought me back to the battery door on the original Gameboy handheld. But, the majority of you are too young to remember the old, Donkey King filled Nintendo.

I hate and dislike the warning label on firearms. What's next? Every steak knife will have "warning sharp" across the edge? However, H&K found the least obvious place to put the legal scratch marks. But, I'm still planning to check these warning labels every time I fire an assault weapon whether it's gunfight or range it doesn't matter.

Ah that accessory rail of a compact pistol. Glock Are you paying attention? Although this gun is designed for concealment and personal protection A solid light source is a must on all my firearms. Of course, based on the lightsource, the head can be seen further due to the narrow slide and barrel, however, advancements in LED technology have created some amazingly small-sized weapon lights. The brand new Surefire XC2 comes to mind.

Overall, the design of the finish and overall appearance of the VP9SK are exactly what I'd like to see emerge from an H&K factory - stunning and practical. If I were to draw an analogy between opposite sexes I'd say the SK is an Maggie Gylenhaal rather than a Penelope Cruz. Learn to decipher the difference.

RANGE TIME With the VP9SK:

So, here's the place where I'll talk about my sub-second split times as well as fifty yard MOA groupings isn't it? Yes,

In all seriousness I put the VP9SK through what think is an ordinary course of familiarization with weapons like the one MIL/LE agencies have their men and girls through with firearms that are likely to be encountered in the field, however not designated as sidearms for duty.

First , 10-yard, 10- round slow fire, set to test the accuracy and function. Perfect, no issues. Then I followed it up with a short, untimed fire drills that was designed to help me practice firing reloads, shooting at various ranges and distances as well as double tapping everything between five and 25 yards. It's not as rigid as it seems and is in a way similar to an LE-style, non-timed qualification course.

In the first "alone time" shooting with the SK I had no problems in any way. My hand grip and position was natural, and the recoil was just a slight small blip you'd expect from a lighter short-barreled pistol. It was greater than a handgun with a larger capacity but not enough to add to the shooting experience.

The one true standout feature of this pistol was it's trigger. Light and smooth, I was awestruck by both the reset and pull. Actually I'd be astonished to find any options available aftermarket for drop-in replacements. Really it's this Glock triggers have always worked for me. Not match-grade in any way, but far from the snub that some shooters would like to believe. But after pulling the trigger of the VP9SK a several thousand times over the course of a few days, I felt sad to be forced to go back the Austrian triggers.

Okay, so the custom 1911 owners of the world may not be as thrilled like I was, however this trigger is an absolute delight.

I haven't shot the pistol in groups, though I was able to pound 6 steel targets at 25 yards regularly. This should be enough to use a compact gun for defensive purposes.

Follow-up shots were simple and fast, even with the latest trend in pistols that is the compensator. Reloads and magazine exchanges were consistent and smooth. The grip angle isn't too deep or steep.

To be honest, I couldn't find anything I disliked about this firearm and, being an avid Glock enthusiast I did a lot of research. It's not like I kicked the VP9SK in the dirt or throw it off an airplane, or any other thing. However, I was frustrated by something and I didn't. It's a lovely gun that is solid and performs exceptionally well as a compact firearm for defense.

CONCLUSIONS:

I truly loved my time using the VP9SK. It's made well as well as precise, and it worked flawlessly for the a half-dozen rounds I shot through Tangos (that's what I refer to as the berm that is behind my targets). Although it's small but it does have the rail to hold a light/laser and magazine compatibility. Reloads are able to give you 15 rounds, and the trigger is great for a pistol that fires a striker.

With that said there is no need to believe my words as gospel. Explore, research on other reviews, and make sure you take a look at a few models prior to committing your money. When you're prepared, I am sure you'll be dissatisfied.
