H&K's P2000 Compact Gun

Here's What You Should Keep in Mind This:

P2000 is a well-made pistol that showcases the finest of German technology in a comprehensive package that can be used by almost any person. Based on years of experience in design and manufacturing, the pistol has been able to remain competitive in a market that is crowded with smaller and more compact models.

The field of small defensive handguns is one that's crowded however, one gun that stands out above the crowd can be found in one called the Heckler and Koch P2000. It was introduced to the market in 2001 The P2000 has created its niche as a gun for people who value German manufacturing and attention to detail when it comes to the design of a carry gun. Even though the company has launched new compact handguns, the P2000 is still being produced as a testimony to the longevity of the pistol's market.

Heckler and Koch was started following World War II by former Mauser engineers Edmund Heckler, Theodor Koch Theodor Koch,

as well as Alex Seidel. The company first produced guns designed for use by the German military, such as the infamous G-3 battle rifle, as well as the MP-5 submachine gun. The company later ventured into the pistol market , with models like the VP-70 P9, VP-70, as well as P7.

History

In the late 1980s the emergence of European "Wonder Nines"--steel and polymer handguns that were chambered in nine millimeters with magazines that held 15 or more rounds - triggered an evolution in the market within the United States. These Wonder Nines, led by the Glock 17 but also including guns like those made by the Beretta the 92 as well as Sig Sauer P226, were extremely popular in the U.S. civilian and police market. The popularity spread out to the world market since the pistols were featured on the pages of U.S. media and elsewhere.

In the 1990s, Heckler and Koch had released its own Wonder Nine, the Universal Service Pistol (USP) in sizes that were both compact and full-size. In 2001, the company introduced the P2000. The P2000 is in essence an improvement over the P2000 compact and includes a number of the features. It is a great conceal carry gun that is well-made similar to an BMW in the world of handguns.

P2000 is a frame made of polymers and slide gun that is specifically designed to be concealed carried. Polymers allow the pistol to make considerable weight savings, bringing the weight down to one pounds, nine ounces when using loaded magazines. The pistol's base model is a double-action/single-action design. If you are in the double action setting the constant pulling of the trigger, which is rated as 11.47 pounds will trigger and then fire the gun. When it is in single-action mode where the hammer is already manually pulled in the opposite direction, the firearm features the trigger pulling just 4.5 pounds. Additionally the P200 comes with a Law Enforcement Modification trigger that the manufacturer claims will provide an unchanging trigger pull that minimizes the risk of accidental discharges.

P2000 has 6.85 inches long and has an 2.66-inch barrel. It's 5.07 inches high as well as 1.37 inches across. It was first offered with a nine-millimeter parabellum, and an ten-round magazine that is in a flush position with the top of the grip. Additionally, 13 rounds of extended magazine to add to the grip and allows for grippable real space for those who have larger hands. The pistol is also offered as a .40 Smith & Wesson caliber and comes with a ten-round flush magazine and a 12-round extended magazine.

Ergonomically, the P2000 was way ahead in its day. It was first released in 2001 and includes a range specific physical characteristics that some manufacturers are just now introducing in their firearms. The pistol is completely adjustable, with the lever to release magazines sliding release button for decocking and levers for magazine release all easily accessible to left- or right-handed shooters. Realizing that one size will not suit all, the P2000 was the first pistol to have different sizes of backstraps that could be interchanged that included small medium (standard) large and large backstraps. This allowed for the most comfortable grip for all.

A smaller version of the pistol, the compact P2000SK has reduced 2.4 inches from the gun, making it 6.4 inches in length with an overall high at 4.55 inches. The width is the same and the barrel's length is cut down to 3.86 inches. The P2000SK weighs one poundand eight grams and each magazine can carry 10 rounds of nine millimeter ammunition and nine rounds .40 Smith & Wesson. It is lighter and smaller than its bigger sister, the P2000SK is an excellent backup pistol or firearm for concealed carry for the police and private citizens.

The P2000 is a well-crafted pistol that displays the very best of German engineering in a comprehensive package that is suitable for any. With years of manufacturing and design expertise, this pistol has been able stand out in a market that is crowded with smaller and less compact models.

Let’s take a look at the idea behind the HK P2000’s design, and what makes it tick as a compact self-defense handgun.

Size as well as Ergonomics and Magazines.

The P2000 measures 6.8 inches in length, five inches tall it is 1.3 inches wide. Additionally, it sports an 3.7-inch Chrome-moly Steel barrel. It's quite compact when compared to the SIG Sauer P320, which measures 9mm.
It also comes with polymer frames which mean that it's quite light at 22 ounces. It can weigh up to 25 ounces when loaded. It's matte black with Nitro-carburized surface.
It was originally designed as an 9mm pistol with the option of a 13-round and 10-round magazine It's now made available with .40 Smith & Wesson caliber and is suitable for users with large hands.
Ergonomically ergonomically, the P2000 was way ahead of its time as an modeled gun from 2001.
When they opted for a more compact design as this, many other companies, including Ruger and Walther followed suit, with the ambidextrous mag release design decocking buttons, slide release.

The Safety

Contrary to the safety lever/decocker mounted side-by-side on the USP P2000, the P2000 has the decocker mounted on the left side of the frame.

It's handy that it's right next to the hammer and it's more like the button as opposed to the lever. It's snag-free, and ambidextrous.

Reach back, push the button, release, and shoot without restriction. It's fairly easy to create muscles memory for it.

The Trigger Action

Its trigger mechanism is an DA/SA design. Its DA pull is about 10 pounds and triggers the pistol and cocks it. The SA mode requires the use of a manual hammer drawback and the pull is just 4 pounds.

See? It's easy to break.

I wouldn't suggest it for practice with a target However, if you're able to learn to handle pulling the trigger, do take it to the next level.

As we mentioned earlier we discussed, the P2000 is equipped with a Law Enforcement Modification trigger which gives an unidirectional trigger pull. It is built to remain quite heavy to ensure security.

Certain pistols such as Taurus G2C SIG Sauer P226, Springfield XD-E, and Beretta 92FS (John McLane's preferred) employ a hammer-fired DA/SA mode, which has an uncocker switch in the rear of the slide.

In my opinion, I think this is the only position for the decocker be when you don't want swollen fingers.

But the P2000 does not have the same features. It's an L.E.M.D.A.O. version.

Let's find out what it is.

What exactly is L.E.M.D.A.O. ?

L.E.M.D.A.O. is the acronym for Law Enforcement Module, Double Action Only.

It's simply basically a D.A. trigger system in which it is pre-cocked for the hammer. In this way, the force of the pull trigger is reduced. The hammer remains in place which means it's D.A. every day.

H&K introduced the unique LEM trigger mechanism on its USP Compact which combines the striking component that is cocked together with the DA Hammer. This reduces the trigger pull from DA/SA 12-15 pounds, to L.E.M.D.A.O. 8-10 pounds.

If you're looking for a gun that has well with both a gentle DA pull and a smooth SA draw, then this pistol could be the perfect fit for you.

Interchangeable Backstraps

In response to comments and suggestions made by suggestions for the USP, H&K added a more user-friendly Picatinny rail that can be used to mount sights and other accessories.

In order to create an instrument that is comfortable to hold by anyone, H&K was also the first to introduce removable backstraps with different sizes to the P2000.

The stippling is moulded into the front's panels as well as backstraps. It is comfortable to use with your hands.

Backstraps can eliminate the requirement to purchase slip-on grips. Also, they don't require many dollars on fill-and-grind just to modify the grips.

Simply push the roll pin then replace the backstrap with a brand new one. Check out this video on replacing the grips.
